Amorepacific Expands Manufacturing Presence in the US Amid Trade Challenges
Amorepacific is accelerating its plans to establish manufacturing capabilities in the US due to rising trade tensions and tariffs on Chinese goods, which pose concerns for its Asia-centric production model. Currently dependent on China and South Korea for production, the company is exploring partnerships and investments in logistics and modular manufacturing over the next three to five years, potentially advancing the timeline for a full production facility. This move follows Amorepacific's strong performance in North America, bolstered by the 2023 acquisition of COSRX, leading to a significant increase in regional sales. L'Oréal Experiences Steady Growth Amid Regional Challenges
L’Oréal reported a 3.5% increase in first-quarter like-for-like sales, driven by robust European demand for skin care and fragrance, despite declining revenue in North America. Total sales amounted to €11.7 billion, with growth bolstered by early shipments to China ahead of an IT update. Excluding this factor, underlying growth was 1.5%, surpassing analyst forecasts. North American sales dropped by 3.8%, attributed to reduced makeup demand and weakening consumer sentiment. L’Oréal is addressing potential tariff impacts by adjusting prices and increasing inventory. Performance in Europe remained strong, while China's market stabilized. Although global cosmetics market trends have shifted, particularly in North America due to economic concerns, L’Oréal continues to outperform overall.
