The Swiss fragrance and flavor specialist, Givaudan, has announced a record profit for the 2024 fiscal year, driven by robust demand in the perfume sector. The company also expressed confidence in surpassing its five-year growth targets. This financial success underscores the company's strong market position and strategic initiatives across various segments of the industry.

In an impressive display of financial health, Givaudan reported a net profit of 1.09 billion Swiss francs (approximately 1.15 billion euros) for the year 2024, marking a 22.1% increase from the previous year. The company's revenue grew by 12.3% on an organic basis, reaching 7.4 billion Swiss francs. Analysts had anticipated this performance, but the exceptional volume growth exceeding 10% came as a pleasant surprise. Givaudan attributes much of its success to the Fragrance and Beauty division, which saw sales rise by 14.1% organically. Particularly noteworthy was the 18.4% increase in fine fragrance sales, despite high comparative benchmarks from previous years.

Further bolstering Givaudan's performance was the Functional Fragrance segment, where sales surged by 13.5%. This division encompasses scents used in detergents and hygiene products. The Beauty Ingredients sector also showed robust growth at 11.1%. Additionally, Givaudan expanded its offerings through the acquisition of b.kolormakeup & skincare in July, enhancing its presence in the cosmetics market. The Flavors division contributed significantly with a 10.7% sales increase, notably boosted by substantial gains in Latin America and South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Givaudan's achievements reflect not only its ability to navigate challenging market conditions but also its strategic foresight in diversifying its portfolio. The company's consistent outperformance sets a positive outlook for future growth, particularly as it aims to exceed its long-term objectives. With such solid foundations, Givaudan is well-positioned to continue leading in the global fragrance and flavor industry.

Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Packaging: The Niugreen Project

Marie Devaux, CEO of BRC, is pioneering eco-friendly packaging solutions to reduce environmental impact. Initially specializing in flexible refills for liquids and powders, BRC now focuses on reusing glass bottles for alcohol-based products like essential oils and perfumes through the Niugreen project. To clean these bottles without water, BRC partnered with École des Mines d’Albi to develop a patented supercritical CO2 technology that absorbs particles and odors, cleaning 4,000 bottles per hour. The process uses CO2 derived from organic waste methanization, minimizing emissions and resource use. Compared to recycling, this method reduces CO2 emissions by 72% for a 150 ml bottle. Niugreen aims to meet regulatory requirements for manufacturers to reuse 10% of packaging by 2030, offering brands an environmentally responsible alternative.
