This comprehensive overview details the unfolding holiday shopping season, focusing on the tactical approaches adopted by beauty and wellness companies. It highlights their engagement with major sales events, alongside a deeper look into market dynamics and expert analyses on effective marketing strategies. The report also encapsulates recent significant developments within the industry, covering leadership changes, strategic alliances, and financial health updates from prominent brands.

Beauty and Wellness Sector Gears Up for Holiday Shopping Rush

The fourth quarter's initial major online retail events commenced this week, marking the unofficial start of the holiday shopping spree. Specifically, Amazon Prime Big Deal Days and Walmart Deals launched, running from Tuesday through Wednesday and Saturday, respectively. Concurrently, Target's Circle Week began on Sunday and is set to conclude on Saturday. These promotional periods are characterized by extensive price reductions, with a substantial portion of the offerings dedicated to beauty and wellness products, typically seeing discounts ranging from 20% to 30%.

On Amazon, brands such as InterParfums are offering 20-25% off their portfolio, including MCM, Oscar de la Renta, and Guess. L'Oréal is providing 20% discounts on products from Garner, Maybelline, and L'Oréal Paris. Several other brands, including JVN Hair, Dr. Diamond, and Obagi, are also capping their discounts at 20%. Higher discounts, up to 30%, are available from Sulwahsoo, Biossance, and Epicurean. Hair care items are seeing some of the most significant markdowns, with Christophe Robin and Joico at 40% off. K-beauty favorite Medicube is offering customized discounts ranging from 5-40%, depending on the product. Access to these Amazon deals requires a Prime membership.

Walmart is also featuring discounts on thousands of items without requiring a membership, though Walmart+ members receive a five-hour early access. Their beauty and wellness promotions include substantial savings on CK One fragrance (20% off) and Oral B electric toothbrushes (40% off).

Target's strategy includes a daily 40% off 'deal of the day,' which on Monday featured Olive & June, among others like Apple, GM, and Hydroflask. Other weekly deals encompass 30% off hair tools, such as Unbrush, and 20% off fragrances and skincare from brands like Fine-ry and La Roche Posay. Target is also implementing a 'buy one get one free' (BOGO) promotion on various health, wellness, and beauty products, including Old Spice, Olly supplements, and Dove.

Despite prevailing economic uncertainties affecting consumer confidence, shoppers are reportedly eager to begin their holiday purchasing. Mintel market research indicates that 76% of U.S. consumers value gift-giving traditions, with 42% planning to complete their winter holiday shopping before Thanksgiving. The beauty sector holds promising prospects, with Amazon data revealing that 37% of its shoppers purchased beauty or personal care items as gifts last year, placing it closely behind toys and games (48%) and ahead of jewelry and accessories (33%) in holiday sales for 2024.

NielsenIQ's recent findings further underscore the strength of digital sales, showing online beauty sales growing nine times faster than in-store sales this year, with a 21% increase in North American digital beauty sales in 2025. Dave Charest, Director of Small Business Success at Constant Contact, advises brands to prioritize converting social media followers into email subscribers and SMS users, as SMS consistently outperforms other channels. A recent study surveying 2,500 business leaders across the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and the U.K. revealed that 37% have increased their marketing budgets this year. For health and wellness, 1 in 3 leaders identified SMS as a top-performing channel. However, Charest cautions against excessive sales messaging, recommending a strategic approach of three communications: an announcement, a reminder, and a final opportunity, ideally timed between a week out and just before the sale's commencement or conclusion.

In other significant industry news, Marla Beck has resigned as CEO of BeautyHealth, succeeded by Pedro Malha. Revance has announced new executive appointments, including Scott Leffler as CFO. Laxman Narasimhan has joined the board of Pendulum Therapeutics. Dyson reported a 47% profit drop in 2024 despite record sales volume. Fitness trackers, particularly smart rings, have seen an 88% surge in U.S. retail sales revenue year-to-date. CeraVe has become the official skin- and hair-care sponsor of the NBA. Celine Dion is the new face of Charlotte Tilbury's holiday campaign. Dollar Shave Club plans to revive its distinctive advertising strategy. Coperni has launched a probiotic-infused athleisure line, and Harry's has ventured into fine fragrances.

The current market landscape, characterized by robust online sales growth and evolving consumer behaviors, underscores the critical importance of adaptable and multi-channel marketing strategies for beauty and wellness brands. The insights shared by industry experts highlight the shift towards more direct and personalized communication channels like SMS, while also cautioning against message fatigue. Brands that successfully navigate these dynamics, leverage data-driven insights, and innovate in both product offerings and marketing approaches are best positioned to thrive in this competitive environment, ensuring sustained engagement and capturing consumer spend during key shopping periods and beyond.
