IMM Private Equity Initiates Partial Divestiture of Able C&C's A'pieu Brand
IMM Private Equity is strategically shedding a portion of its investment in Able C&C, specifically targeting the sale of its color cosmetics division, A'pieu. This current effort marks a concentrated shift after broader attempts to divest the entire company faced challenges. The firm's disciplined approach aims to unlock value from its beauty sector assets, reflecting evolving market dynamics and a commitment to optimizing its portfolio.
The Seoul-headquartered private equity firm has enlisted Samjong KPMG to steer the partial sale process of A'pieu. Market soundings have commenced, with initial outreach to potential acquirers via teaser letters. The A'pieu brand is anticipated to command a valuation in the vicinity of ₩20 billion, translating to approximately US$14.4 million. This figure holds significant weight, as A'pieu alone contributed roughly 10% to Able C&C's total sales, which stood at ₩264 billion last year.
IMM Private Equity's decision to pursue a piecemeal sale comes after earlier endeavors to offload the entire Able C&C enterprise faltered. These prior attempts encountered hurdles, primarily due to discrepancies in valuation expectations and the company's overall performance. IMM PE initially secured a 25.5% stake in Able C&C in 2017, and through subsequent investments, its ownership has expanded to 61.5%, representing a cumulative outlay exceeding ₩420 billion.
The current strategic divestment aligns with IMM PE's broader objective of exiting its investment in Able C&C, a process that has been underway since 2022. The private equity firm is now narrowing its focus to key brands within its portfolio, notably A'pieu and Missha. This recalibration follows a period of internal restructuring and brand rationalization initiatives, designed to enhance the appeal and value of its core beauty assets.
IMM Private Equity's move to offload A'pieu represents a calculated step in its long-term investment strategy. By focusing on the partial sale of a strong-performing brand like A'pieu, the firm seeks to achieve a more favorable outcome than a full company divestment, demonstrating agility in response to market conditions and investment timelines. This divestment aims to streamline operations and concentrate resources on the most promising segments of its beauty holdings.
The ongoing efforts to divest A'pieu signify a strategic pivot by IMM Private Equity, moving from a full company sale to a targeted brand divestment. This refined approach seeks to navigate market complexities and realize returns from its significant investment in Able C&C, ensuring a focused and efficient exit strategy while maximizing value for its stakeholders.
