The Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has unveiled its strong financial performance for the fourth quarter and full year of 2024. The company experienced significant revenue growth, improved profit margins, and announced a higher annual dividend. This success is attributed to increased consumer spending and strategic expansion in retail infrastructure and logistics.

Remarkable Financial Performance in Q4 and Full Year 2024

In the final quarter of 2024, JD.com achieved substantial revenue growth, with net revenues increasing by 13.4% year-on-year to RMB347 billion (approximately US$47.5 billion). For the entire year, the company's net revenues reached RMB1,158.8 billion (around US$158.8 billion), marking a 6.8% increase from the previous year. These figures highlight JD.com's robust financial health and growing market presence.

The operating margin for the fourth quarter saw a significant improvement, rising to 2.4%, up from just 0.7% in the same period last year. This enhancement reflects the company's efficiency in operations and cost management. Moreover, net income for the quarter surged to RMB9.9 billion (about US$1.4 billion), compared to RMB3.4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023. Such a remarkable increase in profitability underscores JD.com's effective business strategies and market positioning.

Strategic Expansion and Consumer Demand Drive Success

The core segment of JD Retail demonstrated impressive sales growth of 14.7% year-on-year in the fourth quarter. This success can be attributed to steady improvements in consumer spending patterns, particularly in categories like beauty and personal care products. By expanding its retail infrastructure and logistics reach, JD.com has been able to capture a broader customer base and meet diverse consumer needs more effectively.

The rebound in consumption has played a crucial role in driving JD.com's success. The company's strategic initiatives to enhance its retail infrastructure and diversify its product portfolio have enabled it to attract more customers and strengthen its market position. In response to these positive trends, the board approved a dividend of US$0.5 per ordinary share (US$1.0 per ADS), payable in April 2025. This decision reflects the company's confidence in its future prospects and its commitment to rewarding shareholders.
