The perfumer explains that his inspiration came from a desire to create something more cheerful and colorful than traditional almond-based fragrances. Instead, Kurky features a delightful tutti-frutti accord combined with vanilla and sandalwood for a balanced finish.
Inspired by the vibrant colors of the 1980s, Kurky's packaging reflects its joyful theme through electric-green and poppy-orange doodles, reminiscent of one’s inner child. Kurkdjian, who personally drew the icons on the bottle, shares memories of his childhood bedroom wallpaper in green and orange tones. Although he doesn't particularly favor these colors now, they playfully anchor the perfume's ethos of happiness.
The name "Kurky" holds personal significance as well, originating from a nickname given to him by close friends over two decades ago. Adjusting the spelling for an English-speaking audience, Kurkdjian finds the addition of 'y' aesthetically pleasing. This fragrance also aligns with the spirit of the Bulles d’Agathe collection, named after his niece, emphasizing themes of childhood innocence and freedom.
According to Kurkdjian, the composition process spanned over a year, culminating in a timely release for 2025. He emphasizes the need for positivity in today's world, noting how this project fits perfectly into current global circumstances. Despite being sophisticated and timeless, Kurky avoids pretentiousness, encouraging wearers to embrace a youthful spirit.
