A specialized Swiss chemical provider has launched a groundbreaking initiative to offer carbon footprint data for its products at customers' fingertips. Starting January 2025, Clariant's Care Chemicals division will provide downloadable carbon footprint information for a significant portion of its product range via ClariHub, the company’s dedicated digital platform for clients. This move aims to support customers in making informed decisions toward their carbon reduction goals. The company plans to expand this service to cover most of its portfolio by the end of 2025, adhering to ISO 14067:2018 standards.

Enhancing Customer Support Through Digital Platforms

The introduction of easily accessible carbon footprint data marks a pivotal step in Clariant's commitment to transparency and sustainability. Clients can now log into their accounts on ClariHub to access comprehensive product information and understand the environmental impact of their purchasing decisions. This initiative empowers businesses to align with their own sustainability objectives more effectively.

This new feature on ClariHub represents a significant leap forward in customer support. By providing detailed carbon footprint data, Clariant is not only enhancing its service offerings but also fostering a culture of transparency. Christian Vang, President of Care Chemicals & Americas at Clariant, emphasized that this development underscores the company’s dedication to aiding clients in achieving their carbon reduction targets. The availability of these insights allows customers to make well-informed choices, contributing positively to their sustainability initiatives. Moreover, it sets a benchmark for other companies in the industry to follow suit in promoting environmental responsibility.

Pioneering Sustainable Practices in the Chemical Industry

Clariant's Care Chemicals division is taking proactive measures to increase the availability of carbon footprint data. Currently, about half of the products have this information available, with ongoing efforts to extend coverage to the majority of the portfolio by the end of 2025. This expansion reflects the company’s strategic focus on enabling informed decision-making for its clients.

The commitment to expanding carbon footprint data availability is rooted in Clariant's broader strategy for sustainable development. Adhering to the ISO 14067:2018 standard ensures that the provided data is reliable and consistent. By continuously increasing the number of products covered, Clariant demonstrates its dedication to leading the charge in sustainable practices within the chemical sector. This approach not only supports clients in meeting their environmental goals but also positions Clariant as an industry leader committed to transparency and sustainability. The company's efforts set a high standard for others in the field, encouraging a collective move towards greener business practices.

Chinese Cosmetics Gain Traction in Brazil: Quality and Value Drive Growth

Rodrigo Giraldelli, CEO of China Gate, highlights the significant improvement in Chinese product quality, particularly in cosmetics. Once perceived as low-quality by Brazilians, Chinese goods have rapidly advanced, driven by demanding domestic consumers and competitive e-commerce platforms like AliExpress and Shein. Cosmetics imports from China to Brazil surged 80% over two years, with specific categories like lip products increasing by 614%. Currently, Chinese products account for 5.8% of Brazil’s total cosmetic imports, valued at $56 million. This growth is attributed to enhanced quality, competitive pricing, and stringent quality controls. However, illegal imports pose health risks due to lack of regulation. Giraldelli predicts continued growth in Chinese cosmetic consumption in Brazil, driven by their excellent quality-to-price ratio.

Chinese Economy Sees Uplift During Lunar New Year Holiday

China's domestic consumption saw a modest uplift during the Lunar New Year holiday, with travel and retail sales providing relief to an economy strained by potential US trade war escalations. Official data revealed a 5.9% increase in domestic tourist trips, reaching 500 million, and a 4.1% rise in key retail and catering services compared to the previous year. Consumer spending on household appliances and communication equipment surged by over 10%. Despite these gains, consumer confidence remains subdued due to a prolonged real estate crisis. The government has intensified consumption support measures and expanded subsidies for household items. China aims for around 5% GDP growth in 2025, but this could be challenged by ongoing trade tensions, exemplified by recent tariff announcements from both the US and China.
