THG Reclaims Spot on FTSE 250 Following Impressive Share Price Recovery

THG, the Manchester-headquartered retail giant, has successfully reclaimed its position on the prestigious FTSE 250 index, effective September 24th. This remarkable turnaround comes merely a quarter after the company's relegation to the Small Cap Index, underscoring a significant shift in its market fortunes and investor sentiment.

The primary catalyst for this rapid ascent has been a notable resurgence in THG's share price. Over a three-month period, the company's shares climbed from a low of 25p in June to a more robust 35p. This upward trajectory consequently boosted its market capitalization from a modest £352 million to an impressive £498 million, signaling renewed confidence from the investment community.

Analysts largely attribute this positive momentum to several strategic initiatives spearheaded by CEO Matt Moulding. A key driver has been the exceptional double-digit growth exhibited by THG's Myprotein division, a cornerstone of its business operations. Furthermore, Moulding's proactive approach to financial management, particularly his emphasis on achieving a zero-net debt position through strategic asset disposals, has resonated well with stakeholders. Earlier in the year, THG divested its Ingenuity arm, which had been a drag on profitability, and successfully sold Claremont Ingredients to Nactarome Group for a substantial £103 million. Indications suggest that further disposals are being considered as part of this broader financial restructuring.

Despite a reported 2.6% decrease in overall group revenue, settling at £783.4 million, and a dip in adjusted EBITDA to £24 million in the first half of 2025, THG demonstrated a return to revenue growth during the second quarter. This resilience, coupled with the anticipated announcement of a partnership with a prominent global confectionery leader, has further bolstered investor optimism regarding the company's future prospects.

THG's swift return to the FTSE 250 serves as a clear testament to investor belief in its revitalized debt-reduction strategy and the sustained growth potential of its Myprotein segment. In a challenging and dynamic retail landscape, these strategic maneuvers are positioning the group for continued momentum and success, highlighting its ability to adapt and thrive amidst adversity.
