Empowering Local Visionaries: A Partnership for a Sustainable Future

Catalyzing Sustainable Progress in East Africa

A collaborative endeavor between Unilever, the UK Government, and EY, under the umbrella of the TRANSFORM program, has injected KSh 85.6 million into five burgeoning East African companies. This strategic funding is aimed at nurturing enterprises dedicated to forging a more sustainable future through advances in agriculture, effective waste management, and the adoption of circular economic models.

The Innovators Spearheading Change

Among the beneficiaries of the TRANSFORM East Africa Challenge are several pioneering organizations. Cinch, a Kenyan entity, is enhancing the livelihoods of small-scale farmers by consolidating their operations. In Uganda, Eco Brixs is transforming plastic waste into valuable construction materials and furniture, showcasing an ingenious approach to resourcefulness. Green Bean Manufacturing from Ethiopia is revolutionizing agricultural processing with advanced machinery. Another Ethiopian innovator, Green Scene, is utilizing solar power to make turmeric processing more environmentally friendly. Lastly, Kuza One in Kenya is empowering young individuals and women by equipping them with the skills to become agricultural entrepreneurs, offering vital advisory services to farming communities. Beyond financial backing, these recipients will benefit from specialized business guidance and connections to international networks, crucial for expanding their reach and influence.

A Strategic Alliance for Global Impact

For multinational corporations such as Unilever, these alliances with regional innovators are pivotal. They facilitate the integration of sustainable methodologies into supply chains, significantly diminish plastic pollution, and bolster local economies. By enabling the expansion of agritech and circular economy ventures, the TRANSFORM initiative not only aids in achieving corporate sustainability objectives but also propels broader socio-economic advancement throughout the African continent.
