Enhanced Safety Measures for Cosmetic Imports in South Korea
South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) is collaborating with the Korea Customs Service, Korea Consumer Agency, and local governments to increase cosmetic product inspections tenfold. This initiative follows the discovery of safety violations in products bought from international online platforms, particularly in color cosmetics and eye makeup. Imports will be restricted for unsafe products, and information on hazardous imported cosmetics will be shared via Drug Safety Korea. The MFDS will also issue guidelines for purchasing cosmetics through international e-commerce. This enhanced scrutiny aims to prevent consumer harm, responding to a recent rise in detected hazardous ingredients.
