P&G Invests $150 Million in Iowa City Expansion, Bringing Oral-B Production to US

Procter & Gamble is undertaking a substantial expansion of its Oral-B production facility in Iowa City, backed by a $150 million investment. This strategic move involves the construction of a new 150,000-square-foot facility, which is projected to generate 100 new employment opportunities within the region. This development signals a significant shift in the company's operational strategy.

The ambitious project has garnered considerable support, including $5.2 million in state tax credits and additional local property tax incentives, underscoring its economic importance. For the first time, a portion of Oral-B product manufacturing, previously conducted exclusively overseas, will be relocated to the U.S., with production slated to commence in Iowa City in 2027. While international production will continue, this localization effort aims to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities. Procter & Gamble, a major employer in Iowa City with approximately 600 existing staff, has announced that the new positions will offer an average wage of $31.85 per hour, making it one of the largest recent manufacturing investments in the area.

This initiative by Procter & Gamble aligns with a broader trend observed among multinational corporations to localize their supply chains. This strategic pivot is largely driven by evolving global trade policies and tariff pressures, emphasizing the importance of robust domestic production. By expanding its U.S.-based manufacturing capacity, P&G not only strengthens its operational resilience but also capitalizes on state-level incentives designed to foster the growth of advanced manufacturing jobs and stimulate local economic development.

This significant investment by Procter & Gamble represents a forward-thinking approach that prioritizes community development and economic stability. By creating new jobs and bolstering domestic production, the company demonstrates a commitment to fostering a stronger, more resilient local economy. This move will enhance local employment opportunities and contribute to the overall prosperity of the community.
